Excursion to Tzoumerka

Excursion to Tzoumerka

Part of the Pindos mountain range, somewhere between the prefectures of Trikala, Ioannina and Arta, Tzoumerka, are an alternative travel destination, indissolubly linked to absolute tranquility, adventure to nature, relaxation, traditional cuisine and history.

The scenes in Tzoumerka (also known as the Athamanian Mountains) make up rich forests, rivers such as Arachthos and Kalarrytikos, sounds of small and big waterfalls, canyons and chaotic ravines, bridges, stone fountains with iced water, cobblestone paths for walking and stone houses with the characteristic slate slabs on their roofs.

Of the dozens of villages that make up this region of Epirus, the greatest reputation has three of them:

Syrrako, the village of Kostas Krystallis, at an altitude of 1,150 meters. No entry into vehicles is permitted in this village. Syrrako is an example of traditional architecture.

Kalarrytes, at an altitude of 1200 meters, in which gold, silver and saffron worked. In 1212, the monastery of Kipina, one of the most impressive monasteries of Epirus, was built near the village, in the vertical rock pit.

Pramanta with the dense fir forest and the cave of Anemoprypas, the only cave in the country with a river along its entire length.

In these and in all the villages of Tzoumerka, the traveler can enjoy his holidays in traditional guesthouses, offering excellent hospitality and a pleasant environment all year round!
